Highlights Of The New Extreme Training P90X2 Workout

Thousands of exercisers and fitness junkies around the world are counting down the days to the most anticipated extreme training in home workout sequel to ever come to market.  It’s been well over a year since Beachbody (producer of P90X) announced that they, with the help of fitness trainer Tony Horton, would begin work on a radically new follow up program to their best selling workout.

The P90X2 Workout is scheduled to be released later this year and definitely before the holiday shopping season gets into full swing. Although the program is several months away, much has been leaked about the style, format, workouts, and new equipment that will be needed to complete certain exercises. This is what we know so far…

Let’s first begin with the style of P90X2, because it does differ from its predecessor.  Whereas P90X was a 6 day a week workout regimen leaving one day for rest, P90X2 has reduced the workout week to 5 days leaving a complete 2 days of rest. This seemingly small change actually is major, and one that was considered seriously by Tony Horton and his advisors before being decided upon. The simple reason behind the reduction is that the new workouts are more efficient and effective than they were with P90X. Five days of P90X2 workouts will equate to 6 or more days of workouts when compared to the original program.

With P90X2 the number of DVD’s has been increased to 14 from 12 which is another change, this gives greater diversity of exercise moves and less of a chance that the user will experience boredom and plateau. Another major format change is the fact that there is no specific cardio DVD in the new program. Many have found this to be puzzling since cardio represented 25% of the P90X DVD’s and were left wondering; where is all the cardio? The cardio is very much present, but rather than relegated to a couple of DVD’s, it was determined best to weave cardio throughout the entire program.

The equipment needs of any program usually need to be thought of before a program is ever even purchased. This one factor can be a large expense if lots of accessories are needed. With P90X2 all of the workouts have been designed so that people on the go, who have no access to weights, chin up bars, or resistance bands, can do the exercises. This is a nice new feature of this workout. Of course to really get the most of the program a few pieces of equipment will be a must in addition to the typical P90X gear.

The first of these items that’s new to the workout routine lineup is the Balance Ball. The introduction of the balance ball is to create the right amount of instability while you exercise your upper body. This instability will engage your core muscles and in essence help you kill two birds with one stone. The second addition is the introduction of medicine balls. But not the way most people think of them. These balls are going to be used the most with chest push up exercises. P90X2 chest exercise will require sometimes up to 4 medicine balls, having you balance your hands and feet each on a ball while you do pushups.  These are just a few examples of new workouts utilizing new equipment.

This is just a sampling of some of the features this new workout will have. The future of the P90X brand is in the hands of the sequel and no doubt many fans and newcomers are looking forward to experiencing what’s in store.
