Diets exclusion

The exclusion diets prevent or greatly reduce the consumption of one or more energy foods: sugars, starches, vegetables or even dried fruits, cereals or dairy products. But the risk of failures are high. The exclusion diets are the best known methods Mayo, Atkins, Hollywood…

These diets often result in rapid weight loss initially, but to expose deficiencies in vitamins, minerals or proteins more or less pronounced. The “yo-yo” dangerous for the heart

Obesity: What treatment?

Obesity is rising in the Globe. It is responsible for many health problems. It is therefore essential to take charge. Which methods of treatment?

Treatment is defined in terms of severity of the disease, its causes, its stage of evolution. Its success is based on a combination of several elements:

  • Restrictive diets;
  • Exercise;
  • Psychological support;
  • Treatment of complications, regardless of the success of weight control.

Between restrictions and surgery

The restricted diet changes based on the responses obtained in terms of loss and weight stabilization. Often after 12 to 24 weeks the weight reaches a plateau. The resumption of weight, very often, must be prevented.
In cases of severe obesity was resorted to surgery to remove a portion of adipose tissue. Treatment success depends largely on the quality of medical care and support of loved ones. It is the responsibility of many stakeholders:

  • General obesity and pediatricians who are the front line for the balance of the disease and its initial management. They are also the first to provide prevention, including surveillance of risk in children;
  • Specialists in endocrinology and metabolism, gastroenterology and internal medicine;
  • Dietitians;
  • Psychiatrists and psychotherapists;
  • Occupational physicians, doctors advice, medical school who have a fundamental role in prevention.

Vitamin D to prevent diabetes?

Already known for its beneficial role on bone, vitamin D may also be useful for reducing insulin resistance, and thus possibly prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes. At least, that suggests a New Zealand study showing that vitamin D supplementation significantly increases sensitivity to insulin.

Among other properties, vitamin D is prescribed to patients for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, with its essential role in bone mineralization. But it would also play a role in insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar (glucose) in blood. When the weight, blood pressure, cholesterol increases, metabolism is disturbed (the metabolic syndrome) and the cells become gradually as insulin resistant. This can lead to more or less long term, diabetes (elevated too high and prolonged blood sugar, risk of complications).
